OPTIMUM COMPOSITE TECHNOLOGIES, LLC is now the exclusive tank provider for the AGA Systems EPA certified CNG bi-fuel system for the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain compact SUVs. “We have a 16x35 (6.8 gge) and a 19x34 (8.3 gge) Type 3 CNG tank that both fit nicely in the cargo area of these vehicles,” said Chad Morgan, Customer Relations Manager at Optimum.
AGA Systems will provide the new CNG bi-fuel Equinox and Terrain vehicles in a choice of the Cargo Configuration (55 cu ft. cargo capacity) or the Passenger Configuration (seats 5).
When asked why he chose Optimum Bryan Wilcox, Vice President of AGA Systems, said, “These vehicles will be used by municipal and state agencies, private and public companies and individual consumers. We have to be selective about what tanks we put inside of a vehicle and have great confidence in the safety and quality of Optimum’s cylinders.”
Having over 35 years combined experience in the design and fabrication of COPV’s, (Composite Over-wrapped Pressure Vessels) Optimum has designed a safe and durable tank ideal for passenger vehicles. Each tank is constructed using special engineered aluminum, heat-treated specifically for CNG use. USA-made carbon fiber and specialized resin are wrapped in a proprietary pattern to insure the safest possible CNG tank on the market. Quality checkpoints throughout the process ending with a rigorous stress test insure structural integrity of each tank. Optimum doesn’t leave safety to chance. “We pride ourselves on fabricating no-leak tanks and guarantee the performance of every CNG tank sold,” said Mike Olson, Chief Engineer.
The 16x35 Optimum tank was used in the prototype vehicle displayed at the NGV Expo last November. Acknowledging a need for increased fuel range AGA Systems will offer either the 16x35 (6.8 gge) or the larger 19x34 (8.3 gge).
“The Terrain and Equinox are among the best compact SUV offerings on the road today, and when equipped with CNG, provide the opportunity to see real savings with a smaller, more fuel efficient vehicle. With the growing popularity of the Equinox and Terrain in fleet service, we anticipate 500+ units being converted in the next year,” stated Bryan Wilcox.
OPTIMUM COMPOSITE TECHNOLOGIES, LLC specializes in the design, fabrication, and production of Type 3 and Type 4 alternative fuel cylinders/COPVs. Optimum has variety of cylinders sizes up to 21x60 certified to NGV2 standards that are ready for immediate delivery.
